About The Recipe

Espresso martinis have gained alot of popularity in the past few years as being one of the go-to after dinner drinks. Surprisingly, espresso martinis are very easy to make, but just require alot of shaking and ice! To make a cannabis infused espresso martini might sound complicated, but it’s really more fun than work!

Where Did the Espresso Martini Come From?

The Espresso Martini, a captivating and sophisticated cocktail, combines the best of both worlds - the rich, bold flavours of coffee and the timeless appeal of a classic martini. This beloved drink has an interesting history, tracing its roots back to the late 20th century.

Legend has it that the cocktail was created in the late 1980s by bartender Dick Bradsell in London. Supposedly, a famous model requested a drink that would "wake her up and mess her up," and Bradsell's Espresso Martini was born. The cocktail quickly gained popularity for its unique blend of caffeine and alcohol, providing a perfect pick-me-up for late-night socialites.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Naturally sweetened — maple syrup is an excellent natural sweetener!
  • Quick and easy to make — contrary to popular belief it’s actually very easy to make an espresso martini. It just requires a lot of hard shaking to get that foamy top!
  • Great alternative to alcohol — if you’re like me and not a big fan of alcohol, this mocktails is perfect. It’ll give you the feeling of drinking without experiencing the terrible hangover the next day!

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Maple Syrup: I like to use the maple syrup as a sweetener but traditionally this cocktail/mocktail is made with simple syrup. Feel free to make it the traditional way or add any other type of sweetener you might like. For an added infusion use my infused maple syrup recipe!
  • Espresso: This cocktail is named after the main ingredient in this drink - espresso! But if you’re all capped out on caffeine for the day, feel free to swap with a decaf espresso.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • Shaking all of your ingredients without the ice is called a “dry shake” in bartending terms. It helps create that super foamy top of the cocktail so once you dry shake, then add your ice and shake hard!
  • Garnish your drink with a coffee bean or two for a nice added touch.

FAQ

Q: Can I only drink this after dinner?

A: Definitely not! This popular drink can be enjoyed at any time of the day and sometimes makes for a great pre-dinner drink when you need a little wake me up. People just typically consume it after a meal as a little dessert/aperitivo.

Q: How long will this mocktail take to kick in?

A: Cannabis beverages are considered to be a cannabis edible, which means that they have to be ingested and processed by your liver before heading up to your blood brain barrier. The onset of cannabis edibles can range from person to person, and can also be impacted by a variety of factors, such as one’s metabolism. Generally cannabis infused bevies can take anywhere from 30 minutes all the way to 2 hours for the onset, and the experience can last between 4 to 12 hours.

Q: What non-alcoholic spirit should I use for this mocktail?

A: It’s really up to you. The classic recipe of this cocktail usually calls for vodka so I’d recommend a zero-proof vodka BUT I’ve heard of this drink also being ordered with tequila instead so use whatever you think would taste the best!

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)
